A day in the life

Not all children in the area can come to school. We say a prayer and sing a song of praise to thank God for our day.

It is time to start lessons for the day. I really enjoy learning. Lessons may be hard but it is also fun.

I am in Class 1. There are three kindergarten classes below me and at the end of those three years  I had to take a test in reading and writing in English and doing simple sums.

All our teaching has to be in English as that is what the government wants. This is hard because at home we speak Swahili. With my grandmother I have to speak Giriama as that is our tribal language. (In Kenya … Continued

Above me there are 7 more Classes. When you get to year 8 we take the national Kenya Certificate in Primary Education exams.

After ujii we run around before we have to sit back in class again.

The bell rings and lessons resume. Time for maths now. I like doing sums.

We have 5 subjects at our primary school Mathematics, Kiswahili, English, Social studies and Christian Religious Education.
